Dumping Bible Study Here B/c I'm Lazy

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint (Isaiah 40:29-31, NIV).

GiG's Gwen Smith:

"We should wake up each morning bursting at the seams to be with God, to be in His presence, to listen for His still small voice, to savor Him."

Myself, I have to get over this allergy at this computer, but I do crave God.

He enables us to do. What we desire and what's in His will.

This energizing, percolated faith is readily available to all who ask, seek and knock (Matthew 7:7-8).

Listen for His voice instructing you.

Like a morning with no coffee, there are times when we are sluggish in our faith. Times when trusting Him doesn’t come easily.

David recalled times when God had brought him through to spur him on to victory in the present.

Corrie Ten Boom said, "Faith sees the invisible, believes the unbelievable, and receives the impossible."

God has been good, is good, and will be good. Amen.

Sunday Scribblings

Sunday Scribblings is a site that posts a writing prompt every Saturday. The idea is that on Sunday you create a piece of writing inspired by the prompt, post it on your blog, and leave a comment on the “Sunday Scribblings” site letting them know that you’ve participated.
Here are some of their prompts:
  • What scares you?
  • Pain. Anxiety. Giving up after failing too many times. Things outside myself that mess up my life. Pain. Hate. People who yell. Not knowing enough. Not knowing how to do something simple that people feel they are babysitting me if they tell me how to do. Especially nurtured pricks who don't know what it's like not to have had someone to show you such things. Maybe that's less of a fear and more of something that makes me angry. Not so much being wrong as being misperceived. Never having anyone who understands all of me or cares to.
  • Do you have a Plan? Do you need a Plan? Have you had a plan fall spectacularly to pieces?
  • Many of my plans spectacularly fall to pieces. I don't know what to do. I try to be encouraged by Edison and his lightbulb, but sometimes defeat seems overwhelming. I suppose that's what Satan wants me to feel like, or for the non-believers out there, my inner weakness takes over and makes me want to just forget it or punch it or them, etc. Even though I would never punch anyone.
  • What is your take on soul mates?
  • I think they're real, but I think I've either missed mine, or they're yet to come. I want to have babies, though, so I might try with the next available person if it feels like it's getting too late.
  • Will it really help me to get the negative out, or should I try to change my bent to positive things?
  • Are you a worrier? Is there a particular worry that you can’t shake? How do you cope with worry?
  • I'm not really sure what the problem is that is causing me to worry this afternoon, because I've gone through lots of my "steps," and I really still feel like boo.
  • Dear Past Me . . .
  • Love. Grow, but not too fast. Sunscreen came up from remembering the song Luhrmann does like this. (Whaddya know, I was right. :) Where did the letter go from the Catholic retreat? Where did your past go? Meeting the Indian girl who was your roommate at that one apartment (was that the apartment you were in when you went in the military?).
  • Dear Future Me . . .
  • It'll get better. Remember all these pictures and feelings? Aren't you glad you wrote some? I should have added Google to the thank you list today. What do you need from this writing to make your today better? What do you need to leave behind? What's great? Let it go. Pray. Love. Grow. Stop learning long enough to appreciate everything in your life.

You can create lists of many things, such as the following:

  • Wet n Wild with church and etc.-dad telling me to have faith
  • Boardwalks and Baseball-shelly telling me to have faith
  • Miami, the gorgeous art-deco hotel that was becoming run down, and auditioning for American Idol

Confessions

Do you have anything you would like to confess (even if it’s just to the pages of your journal)?
  • Nobody knows that I . . .
  • Dear ____, it weighs on me that I never told you . . .
  • The biggest lie I’ve ever told is . . .
  • Is there anything you feel guilty about?  Is there anything you need to be forgiven for?
  • What’s the worst thing you’ve ever done?
  • What’s your secret desire?
  • What’s the most outrageous thing you’ve ever done?

Use Quotes as Prompts

Look at the following quotes and write whatever comes to mind when you read them.
  • “If your daily life seems poor, do not blame it; tell yourself that you are not poet enough to call forth its riches.” — Rilke
  • “I have always imagined that Paradise will be some kind of library.” — Jorge Luis Borges
  • “Call it a clan, call it a network, call it a tribe, call it a family.  Whatever you call it, whoever you are, you need one.” — Jane Howard
  • “What in your life is calling you? When all the noise is silenced, the meetings adjourned, the lists laid aside, and the wild iris blooms by itself in the dark forest, what still pulls on your soul? In the silence between your heartbeats hides a summons, do you hear it? Name it, if you must, or leave it forever nameless, but why pretend it is not there?” — The Terma Collective
  • “Art is when you hear a knocking from your soul and you answer.”  Star Richés

The Most . . .

  • The most fun I’ve ever had . . .
  • The most surprised I’ve ever been . . .
  • The most disappointed I’ve ever been . . .

  • Three pet peeves.
  • Three things you’d do if you weren’t so afraid.
  • Three favorite TV shows.

100 Things I Love

You’re going to make lists that will add up to 100 things you love.  Make sure you give an explanation for each of the things you add to your list.  For example, don’t just list your favorite restaurants, write down what you enjoy about each one (the warm bread they serve before the meal, the waiter who always remembers your favorite dish, the whimsical decor, and so on).

Missed stop and walked back from stop sign. Person interested in talking to other humans said hi. Person following me gave me idea on phone.

For some reason, very agitated there. Double standard of openness and attitude. Cannot take but dishes aplenty.

Have to do difficult things today, or not. Tired, oh, so tired of jumping through hoops. "Cut the crap," look at things the right way, and let people flourish.

you're a mother now. no time to sit on your laurels. that baby's not going to care if you're an astrophysicist or an executive (i'm not going to say janitor here. why do people all pick on the janitors?). they're going to care how much you can love them, feed them, and keep them clean until they're aware enough to resent you for everything you've ever been. that's the time to fish out those crushed, burned Greek leaves and show them that you were someone before they came along but that you became human enough to love and feed and clean them. then, they'll respect you. not for the sacrifice you've made but for the knowledge that they, too, will make it to a place that nothing will matter except the small spark of humanity they carry from your example.

you've got the right idea when you imagine what the world would be like had God believed those who said He couldn't and He never and you're still walking around the immense dark nothing wondering what happened to it all.

don't ever use exclamation points, they told me. if it's important/moving/insert-exclamation-inspiring, the reader will get it without the use of "excessive punctuation"! what, if in the course of writing i have actually worn down the barriers of fiction enough to feel as the character does (what are these little bubbles in which the "real" writers entrap their characters so as not to feel the passion or dismay that they feel?) and cannot help my fingers shaping or typing that little shifted 1? yeah, you're right. that was too flowery. thanks for the heads-up advice!

have you ever been suppressed to give way to someone who stole from you and made a name for themselves so that people were comfortable with them first and then could not see past their face to yours, the one with the genius idea in the first place? if you have it, use it!

i smell dangerous. not that kind of radical danger you get from being truly alive, but the kind that lurks around corners, waiting in surprise attack to take everything that is beautiful and important to you. the kind tainted by sewers and dumpsters and inhuman acts and old ladies' closets. if you run around in this life like that you're bound to pick up a foul odor or two. they still haven't made it so that you come out smelling rose- or clean-towel-fresh. even if you sit still and try to do nothing, good or bad, you end up smelling like old socks. no, you have to do something. fresh, and alive, and clean, in the right location. somewhere bright where people like me don't rub off on you. of course, they keep the doors to this place locked up very tight. if they let too many people in, it starts to smell because of them. not very good. and clean, smart, beautiful people have to have their space to do their special thing. the thing that starts inside all of us until we start picking up the danger. if i keep writing, will i smell Chanel? i doubt it. they who are clean and smart and beautiful will collect me from my pretty path and spray me with their net offal. after all, they're exposed to it, too. they just know better what to do with it. so, my beauty dies and i no longer smell Dangerous. i don't smell. and that means no one can find me to notice me. i might as well have died, but they are not that kind, so I keep running around, invisible, until i smell dangerous. 7:44 AM 3/25/2015

It's okay, little -girl-. Yes, you, the little girl hiding inside away from the pile of adult things threatening to topple over and bury you. I love you. I know you're still in there, just hoping that you will get to take over and make my life what it was meant to be. I'm sorry I don't give you enough time, enough air to breathe. Please help me wade through the junk together with God's Spirit to our true purpose, because I know you're the only one who can see me through this time and through to the right side of our lives. Thanks! //edit I know it's my "fault" we're in this mess. Please help me to make better decisions!

#WorldPoetryDay

No free cups of coffee, but a silly poem to compliment the serious one on FB:

On a street corner in Siam
I have never been
But oh, the tales I could tell
From my imagination

The most I know of Siam
There are pretty cats
But on the Internet I researched
They do make pretty hats

I hope my travels lead to Siam
Some day before I die
To bring together knowledge and thought
In senses in the eye
